The YMCA provides supervised daily activities, from 3:30 - 5:45pm, at each of the five Sioux Falls public middle schools. The program, available to YMCA members and non-members, starts in September and ends in mid-May each day these schools are in full-session.
This program is being made available through the cooperative efforts of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA, City of Sioux Falls, Sioux Empire United Way, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, SD Arts Council, First Presbyterian Church and from program fees collected. It is offered to all students enrolled in the Sioux Falls Public Middle Schools.
Activities include, but are not limited to: arts & crafts; computer lab; game room; physical activities; homework help; age-appropriate video games; and at some schools, an indoor skate park. There are also monthly field trips to local attractions. There is also regular participation by the following outside organizations: Minnehaha County Extension-4H; Boy Scouts; and Girl Scouts. Daily snacks, as well as bus transportation to various stops within each school’s district, are provided.
