Sioux Falls Family YMCA celebrates the 79th anniversary of the Boys’ Tri-State Basketball Tournament.
In 1930 A.S. Andy Anderson started the first tri-state tournament with 16 teams from Des Moines,
Aberdeen, Plankinton, and Sioux Falls playing in the Friendly Indian, Pioneer and Comrades
divisions. There were 112 boys and young men playing in the 1 day tournament in one gym.
Today, 79 years later, the tournament has 304 teams playing 380 games in 51 gyms. The
games are played in less than 24 hours with 3,100 boys and young men participating in a
tradition that has grown to the biggest and best basketball tournament in the world based
upon Athletic Sportsmanship and Christian Fellowship.
The details of the tournament are included in the second page of the entry form. This includes cost, game times, special rules, etc.
