The Sioux Falls Family YMCA has been serving the community
since 1886. The life-changing work we do for youth, families, and adults would not be possible without the support
of generous donors.
The need remains steady to help children grow up happy
and strong, to support families in their efforts to be successful, to make our community
a safer, healthier, better place to live and work.
The mission of the Sioux Falls
Family YMCA is to serve all people and to help them
reach their God-given potential through the development of spirit, mind, and body.
YMCA. We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
How you can support our mission…
Your gift can be undesignated or designated.
Undesignated gifts support the YMCA’s work throughout the community and are used
where needed most. You may chose to
designate your gift to benefit a special program, a capital project, camp scholarships,
Strong Kids Annual Campaign, endowment or some other area within the Sioux Falls
Family YMCA.
We are truly blessed to have so many generous supporters,
including the Sioux Empire United Way, who aid us in providing program subsidies
and scholarships, allowing everyone to participate, regardless of gender, faith,
race, ability, age or income.

2010 Strong Kids Campaign

This year, the Sioux Falls Family YMCA will touch nearly 24,000 program participants! Unfortunately, many families who could greatly benefit from programs and services provided by the YMCA cannot afford to participate. Our volunteer-driven Strong Kids Campaign will raise the financial resources necessary to provide financial assistance to children and families in our community.
Over the past several years, the requests for financial assistance have significantly increased. Just this last year, the YMCA offered over $200,000 in program and membership assistance.
To meet the needs of our community, your support is more important than ever!
From camp scholarships and swimming lessons to physical fitness for the whole family…the YMCA is there, teaching life-long healthy habits so that all families can realize the importance of maintaining a healthy spirit, mind, and body.

Planned Gifts
A planned gift is a provision for the YMCA in a will, trust, insurance, annuity, retirement plan, pooled funds, life estate, and/or the establishment of an endowed fund.
Planned giving may offer tax savings and other financial benefits while providing income to the YMCA. There are many philanthropic strategies that allow you to direct your wealth in a way to reflect your values and beliefs, provide important tax benefits and transfer wealth to succeeding generations in a tax-advantaged manner.
Will Language
"I give, devise and bequeath to the Sioux Falls Family YMCA, a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt organization, Federal Tax ID number 46-0225021, for its general purposes, all (or state fraction or percentage) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real or personal."
or
"I give and bequeath to the Sioux Falls Family YMCA, a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt organization, Federal Tax Identification number 46-0225021, the sum of $______, to be used for the general purposes of the Y."
Endowment
Leave a legacy for life. Dollars in these funds remain there forever; only the interest is spent each year to support the YMCA’s needs.
The Sioux Falls Family YMCA has been around for over 100 years and plans to continue providing opportunities for youth and families; therefore, the need for endowment support of the YMCA has never been greater. A designated endowment will stabilize and diversify financial resources and help fund the future. The endowment would also allow income to be harvested for innovation and growth in good times and protect against inflation and dramatic changes in revenue when times are tough. It provides much needed revenue to enhance programs, grant scholarships and maintain facilities, allowing the YMCA to continue its mission for future generations. Bottom line, a strong endowment provides preservation of capital and long-term growth...A Legacy for Life.
The Sioux Falls Family YMCA has six endowment funds located at the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation:
- YMCA Endowment Fund – founded by Dan & Arlene Kirby
- YMCA Camp Leif Ericson Endowment Fund – founded by Don & Cara Lee Davis
- Ivan H. Howes YMCA Camp Scholarship Endowment Fund – founded by Mike & Bunny Howes
- Frank L. Boyce Camp Scholarship Endowment Fund – founded by the estate of Frank Boyce
- Doris Leyse Camp Scholarship Endowment Fund – founded by Walt Leyse
- YMCA Endowment Agency Fund
As we continue to face the challenges and opportunities of the future, we know that the generosity of those who assist us will make all the difference to our success. We strive to show the benefits of giving to all of our donors, the satisfaction one receives from knowing they have made a difference in the lives of others. But in fact, the best gift plans also improve the donor’s financial and tax situation.
Heritage Club

The Heritage Club is the YMCA's society of individuals who have made a direct gift to one of the YMCA Endowment Funds, at a certain level, or made provisions in their estate plans for the YMCA. Through the Heritage Club, the YMCA salutes those who leave a life-long legacy, one that will continue to enrich the lives of kids, families, and older adults for the next 150 years.
Heritage Club members believe in the mission of the YMCA and want to help ensure that YMCA programs and services will be available tomorrow, and for future generations.
There are a variety of gift program options, which will qualify for membership in the YMCA Heritage Club:
- An outright gift of cash, securities, or property.
- A will bequest designating the YMCA for a percentage of the donor’s estate or for a specified amount.
- Gifts of life insurance, naming the YMCA as owner or beneficiary of the policy.
- A charitable lead trust, charitable gift annuity, a life income arrangement, remainder trusts, or a revocable living trust.
Honors, Tributes & Memorials
Giving an honorary or memorial gift to the YMCA is a thoughtful way to remember others. You can recognize family members, friends, spouses and anyone else you wish. Youth may want to recognize a coach at the Y or a teacher at school. Many times a gift is made to honor and remember the life and memory of a deceased loved one or acquaintance.
Unless otherwise stated, all contributions in this manner will de directed toward the annual Strong Kids Campaign.
Matching Gifts
Does your business have a matching gift program? Does your business offer donations to charities for which you volunteer a certain number of hours? Your donation could more than double with a matching donation from your business.
