The Wellness Consultation is a FREE, 60-minute meeting, designed to answer questions, ease anxiety and maximize your Y experience.  A Healthy Living Coach will help identify your overall health goals and orient you to our strength and conditioning equipment.

Attend Equipment Orientation 101

Simply looking to learn the basics about equipment?  If so, enjoy our FREE, 30-minute, safety and equipment orientation facilitated by a Healthy Living Coach.

Join a Group Exercise Class

One of the easiest ways to get over your initial fear is by participating in a group exercise class. At the Y, they are FREE with your membership.  The beauty of these classes is that you don’t have to know what you’re doing because the class instructor will lead you.  In addition, you can expect a friendly environment where most people are trying out new exercises and aren’t expecting any experts. We encourage you to tell the fitness class instructor you’re new, he or she will be more than willing to help you out and give you extra attention if you need it.

Work With A Personal Trainer

The personal attention of a personal trainer can definitely set your mind at ease.  The Sioux Falls YMCA offers personal training and coaching to help you set and meet your specific fitness goals in order to live healthier.

Our Nationally Certified Personal Trainers achieve this by creating a program that is unique, just for you.  Whatever your training goals are, we will take your fitness level to new heights!  With personal training, you will receive a personalized program, individual and safe instruction, motivation, support and engagement.

Bring A Friend

You can simply bring a friend to the gym. He or she may not know as much as a personal trainer or Y staff member, but a friend will at least put you at ease, and give you someone whom you can direct your questions to or imitate if he or she knows what they're doing. A lot of people like to lift weights together, go on cardio machines alongside each other, and motivate each other to get to the Y. In that way, a gym buddy is key, especially if you’re feeling nervous about visiting a fitness center for the first time. Bringing a friend is an easy way to instantly alleviate the discomfort.

Finally, ask questions!

Our Y staff are here to help!  Remember, everyone was new to the Y at some point.  If you have any questions at this moment, please contact Melissa Kirby at mkirby@siouxfallsymca.org or call (605) 336-3190.
