The Sioux Falls YMCA offers Group Fitness classes for every interest and fitness level including Power Pump, Step, Kickboxing, Yoga, Pilates, Water Aerobics, Cycling… there are too many to name. Classes exist for ALL fitness levels, from the beginner to the more experienced. Everyone will be energized by our enthusiastic, motivating, and entertaining instructors. Don’t wait!! - AQUA YOGA - PILOT PROGRAM - This would be a great way to ease back into exercise and relax or to help recover from surgery or injury. This class is held in the Training pool.
- AEROBIC CIRCUIT - a traditional hi-lo aerobics class interspersed with strengthening segments, followed by abdominal work and stretches. Accommodates all fitness levels.
- ARTHRITIS CLASS - a warm-water workout designed and promoted by the Arthritis Foundation, and taught within the foundation guidelines for arthritis aquatic workouts..
- BEGINNING YOGA - a wonderful introductory yoga class familiarizing participants with basic yoga poses, breathing, and body alignment.
- BODY SCULPTING - strength-based exercises utilizing exercise bands, hand-weights, balls, etc. to target all the major muscle groups. A wonderful class for all fitness levels.
- BOOT CAMP - Involves weight-lifting, push-ups, jumping jacks, and a variety of other challenges for an intense military style work out.
- CARDIO CIRCUIT - a traditional hi-lo aerobics class interspersed with strengthening segments, followed by abdominal work and stretches.
- CARDIO CIRCUIT SILVERSNEAKERS ® - Increase your muscular endurance and cardiovascular fitness with a standing circuit workout. Upper body strength work incorporates hand-weights, tubing, and a ball, alternating with no-impact aerobic choreography.
- CARDIO COMBO - similar in format to a straight aerobics class, but with alternating cardio disciplines including everything from step to kickboxing portions interspersed throughout the class.
- CARDIO STEP - aerobic class with alternating cardio disciplines, including step, and strength exercises.
- CIRCUIT CHALLENGE - a 45 min. class involving timed stations alternating between strength exercises and cardio intervals. Prior Cybex equipment training is a must.
- CYCLING+ABS/BACK - a group cycling class on the stationary bikes followed by a more involved abdominal workout than the traditional group cycling classes.
- CYBEX CIRCUIT - a circuit class alternating Cybex and cardio exercise machines at one minute intervals. Can accommodate various levels of ability. Instruction on the Cybex is required prior to class.
- DEEP WATER - a cardio and strength class taught in the deep end of the pool, which utilizes flotation devices for buoyancy and resistance in the water. A good beginning and/or prenatal class because of the buoyancy, but the class will accommodate all fitness levels.
- FRESH START - a beginning level aerobics class using low impact moves, incorporating strengthening segments, abdominal work, and stretches into the format. An excellent prenatal workout as well.
- GROUP CYCLING - a high-intensity cardiovascular workout on stationary bikes followed by an abdominal workout and stretches.
- KICKBOXING - Various upper and lower body jabs and kicks are interspersed throughout an aerobic class format.
- LEVEL II YOGA - a more advanced take on beginning yoga incorporating more difficult poses, balance work, and breathing.
- MSROM (Muscular Strength and Range of Motion) SILVERSNEAKERS ® - a no-impact class utilizing balls, bands, and hand-weights for strength training in a seated or standing position.
- PILATES - a core-work out focusing heavily on body alignment, stabilization, and breathing. Pilates will help in your athletic adventures (like golf) or just improve your day-to-day life. Whether you are just starting a fitness regimen or want to take it up a notch, modifications for exercises and encouragement are provided so individuals can customize the workout to their level of fitness.
- POWER PUMP - standard free-weight exercises targeting the major muscle groups with the use of barbells, choreographed to music.
- SENIOR WATER AEROBICS - a standard water aerobics class targeting the senior population.
- SERIOUS STRENGTH - a class utilizing barbells, hand-weights, and body weight for an efficient and seriously tough workout.
- SILVER SPLASH SILVERSNEAKERS® - a shallow water class offering lots of fun while improving agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. No swimming ability is required.
- STEP - a hi-lo aerobic workout incorporating the use of an adjustable step..
- SPORTS CONDITIONING - a high-impact, high intensity workout utilizing sports-specific exercises and drills.
- TBC = TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING - a variety of intense cardio class formats like kickboxing and hi-lo utilizing the step for the duration of the class.
- WATER AEROBICS - a cardio hi-lo class done in shallow water, affording all the cardio benefits of land with the buoyancy of water.
- YOGA - Body alignment, breathing awareness and balance are emphasized with Yoga poses in this class for various levels of experience.
- YOGA FOR LUNCH - a 35-min. yoga class hitting the hi-lights of a traditional, longer yoga class: body alignment, breathing awareness, and balance. An excellent beginner or prenatal class.
- ZUMBA - means literally to “move fast and have fun”. This is a dance fusion class unlike aerobics, combining different genres of dance: hiphop, calypso, salsa, .etc.
