History of Camp Leif Ericson
1920 – Camp Tepeetonka was organized at Christenson’s Point, Lake Madison. (Tepeetonka means “Big Tent”)
1930 – Camp Tepeetonka was moved from Lake Madison to 55-acre Manhattan Island on Big Stone Lake
1966 – Leif Ericson Day Camp was established on property in Sioux Falls
1991 – First summer for Tepeetonka Outbound Camp at Leif Ericson
1992 – Little Vikes Day Camp started for boys & girls ages 4 and 5; Tepeetonka permanently relocates to Leif Ericson
1994 – Explorers Travel Camp for boys & girls ages 11-14
2007 – Leadership Camp established for 14 year-olds
2013 - Tailfeather camp established for 11-15 year olds
2016 - Ranch Camp established
2017 - Specialty Camps and Wall Lake program established
2019 - Record setting spring flood
