COVID-19

Coaches, Players, and Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your involvement in the YMCA Jr Skyforce Basketball Program this season.  As a result of the current Covid situation, we are asking for your cooperation in implementing the following precautionary protocols for this season.  Please understand that these protocols are subject to change at any point in the season depending on the status of the public health situation and the guidance provided.  We appreciate your willingness to observe these precautions in order to help keep your teammates and fellow participants as safe as possible.  It is everyone's responsibility to ensure that we are able to complete a safe season.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mmurphy@siouxfallsymca.org or (605) 336-3190 ext 21.

Michael Murphy, Interim CEO

  • Spectators will be limited to 3 or less per player.  We will strive to provide adequate physical distancing for players and spectators at each facility and strongly encourage families to bring as few spectators as possible.

  • There will be a 10 minute gap between games to allow for teams to transition between games and practices.  Gym supervisors will monitor teams entering and exiting each facility.  Coaches will discourage players/families from congregating before/after practices and games and we ask that families exit as soon as possible following games to allow for the next teams to enter.

  • There will be no postgame handshake.  Teams will wave to the opposing team from a safe physical distance.

  • Spectators are highly encouraged to wear a cloth mask or face covering in order to provide the safest possible environment for everyone involved.

  • Coaches will be expected to wear a cloth mask or face covering when they are unable to maintain a safe physical distance from players (timeouts, half-time, sitting on the bench, etc).

  • Players have the option of wearing a mask or face covering, but it is encouraged whenever possible.

  • Equipment sharing should be kept to a minimum.  Players should bring their own basketball to practices if possible and coaches should attempt to sanitize shared basketballs as frequently as possible.   Practice jerseys should not be shared.

  • Players should wash or sanitize their hands immediately before and after practices and games.

  • Each player will be responsible to provide their own water bottle for practices and games.

  • Coaches will utilize proper physical distancing whenever possible (space out players during drills, players on the bench, etc)

  • Parents/Guardians and coaches will not allow players who are exhibiting Covid symptoms or who are under quarantine/isolation to participate in practices or games.

  • Teams that are unable to field a team at any point due to Covid issues will contact the basketball director as soon as possible.

WHY THE JR. SKYFORCE BASKETBALL LEAGUES?

  • We have a new program software, “Sports Engine”, which allows you to have quick access to coach notifications, team rosters, practice/game schedules and more.

  • Some teams will get to experience playing on Heritage Court, home of the NBA G-League Champion Sioux Falls Skyforce.

  • Some teams will be involved in pre-game fan experience opportunities at a Skyforce game.

  • When your team plays on Heritage Court, each player gets into that evenings Skyforce game for free (parents receive 50% off that evening’s game tickets).

  • Families of players have an opportunity to attend 1 free regular season Skyforce Family Night game. Free tickets for the whole family!

  • Each player and volunteer coach receives an official Skyforce Membership Card. This is good for 50% off of a ticket to a game and also 25% off of Official Skyforce merchandise (sold at the Pentagon).

  • Free access to Skyforce youth player clinics and Jr. NBA skills competitions.
